As reported in Xconomy ... Leroy Hood, http://medtechiq.ning.com/video/2140535:Video:4666, an American biologist who has won the Lemelson-MIT Prize, the Kyoto Prize, and the Albert Lasker Award, and who has played a role in founding numerous biotechnology companies, including Amgen, Applied Biosystems, Systemix, Darwin, Rosetta, and MacroGenics, has just raised $7.5 million for a new company that will detect cancer at its earliest, most treatable stages in the bloodstream...

... Dr Hood is renowned for inventing "four instruments that have unlocked much of the mystery of human biology" by helping decode the genome. His inventions include the automated DNA sequencer and an automated tool for synthesizing DNA. Hood has also co-founded the Institute for Systems Biology (ISB) in Seattle.

In a recent interview, Dr Hood stated that “this company is going to transform medicine, I guarantee you.” Hood has said he was enthused by the potential for Integrative Diagnostics to usher in the era of what he calls P4 medicine—shorthand for predictive, preventive, personalized, and participatory medicine..
