The Cutting Edge of Medical Technology Content, Community & Collaboration

Harrisburg Health Information Exchange holding critical meetings

The Harrisburg Health Information Exchange will host two meetings this month to advance Electronic Medical Records, or EMR, technology between physician practices and health care providers.

The meetings will be at 3 p.m. March 17 and at 8:30 am March 27, both at the Wildwood Conference Center at Harrisburg Area Community College.

We want to ensure every physician practice and health care provider in the state has the opportunity to fund, implement and maximize EMR technology and Health IT services. Our region and state can and should be a national leader in Health IT, a rapidly growing sector.

These meetings are critical. They will cover a broad range of subjects, including best practices and stories from the battlefield from those who already use or are in the process of implementing an EMR system. Industry leaders will cover change management, how to find the best IT services for a medical practice and what physicians need to do to demonstrate “meaningful use” so as to best capture government reimbursements.

At each session, Pennsylvania health care leaders will lead a community roundtable to address questions, concerns and challenges.

The Harrisburg region is poised to become a national leader in Health IT. The region has higher-than-average EMR adoption and use, and our three hospital systems are at the fourth stage – out of five – of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society’s guidelines for Health IT. We need to pull everything together to grow the community benefits – to wit, the Harrisburg Health Information Exchange.
