In what will surely be an arduous computational task, IBM-Almaden Research Lab is embarking on Project Splash. In the company's words, "finances, urban planning, disease transmission, clinical research, media and other factors have indirect influence on a person’s health. Understanding the full picture is necessary to develop effective programs that improve health". IBM's initial efforts will focus on childhood obesity. If successful, anticipate IBM computing horse power being applied to dissect other complex interactions linked to yet additional public health concerns.
