DESCRIPTION:The Uniformed Services University\nof the Health Sciences 
 will be holding\nits annual Research Week, May 10-12,\n2010. This year
 ’s theme, “Celebrating\nExcellence in Research,” reflects\nthe c
 omplementary roles that basic\nscience, medicine, nursing, public\nhea
 lth and behavioral science play in\nhealth promotion.\nThe three-day e
 vent formally\nencompasses the Graduate School\nof Nursing (GSN) Resea
 rch Colloquium,\nthe School of Medicine (SOM)\nGraduate Student Colloq
 uium, and\nthe Faculty Senate Research Day. The\nGSN Research Colloqui
 um brings\ntogether GSN faculty and students to\npresent and discuss n
 ursing-specific\nresearch findings. The SOM Graduate\nStudent Colloqui
 um highlights\nthe research interests and accomplishments\nof graduate
  students in the\nSchool of Medicine as well as a lecture\nby an inter
 nationally-known scientist.\nFaculty Senate Research Day draws\nthe en
 tire USU community to share\nresearch achievements, foster\ncollaborat
 ions, and stimulate intellectual\nexchange.\nAs part of the Research W
 eek, the\nPostdoctoral Fellows Association\n(PDA) will sponsor a sympo
 sium that\nfeatures talks by USU Fellows and a\nplenary speaker. In ad
 dition, the PDA\nand Graduate Student Council will\nco-sponsor an all-
 day workshop on\ncareer choices in today’s environment.\nOverall, th
 e events serve to inform\nthe local scientific community, collaborativ
 e\ninstitutions, and other federal\nagencies about significant researc
 h\nprojects conducted across the health\nsciences at USU and its affil
 iates.\nThe list of this year’s featured\nspeakers includes Griffin 
 Rodgers,\nM.D., M.A.C.P., director of the National\nInstitute of Diabe
 tes and Digestive and\nKidney Diseases, National Institutes of\nHealth
 . The Presidential Lecture will be\ngiven by Haile Debas, M.D., USU Bo
 ard\nof Regents member and Executive\nDirector, Global Health Sciences
