As reported in Health Data Management ... Hospitals are starting to consider vendor-neutral technologies for archiving and accessing medical images rather than being locked into proprietary picture archiving and communications software, according to a new report from KLAS Enterprises, an Orem, Utah-based vendor research firm.

Building a more flexible image archive and viewing system using technology from such vendors as EMC, IBM and Hewlett-Packard could ease use of the application by multiple departments in a hospital compared with traditional PACS, the report states.

While radiology, nuclear medicine and cardiology departments have significantly adopted digital imaging management technologies, oncology, endoscopy and pathology lag behind, report authors say....
