InWorld Solutions Introduces InWorld, A Multi-User Internet-Based Virtual Environment Designed Specifically for Behavioral Healthcare
Hello to the MedTech world;
I'm posting to announce that I've started a new company, focused on developing new technology for behavioral medicine and rehabilitation. We just returned from the American Psychology Association Meeting where we announced our first product, and it was very well received.
Our products use shared, multi-user virtual worlds to facilitate cognitive therapy and rehabilitation.
Virtual reality technology has a been shown repeatedly to be a powerful way to help treat post traumatic stress disorder, fear of flying and other phobias, and other psychological problems. However, until now it has only been available at university and specialty clinics
Our innovation has been to develop a server-based, voice enabled system that can be used in a general purpose manner to treat a variety of cognitive disorders. Our product - named InWorld - can be used to help in all forms of cognitive therapy that require the use of recall / memory, role-playing and imagination.
Examples to date include Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), alcohol and drug refusal skill training, family therapy, anger management... just about any form of cognitive therapy can be supported by the use of a virtual environment to provide the visual and auditory constructs to facilitate progress.
Of course, because we are server based, out technology provides the ability to provide distance follow-up care, and supports telepsychology and telecounseling. We are HIPPA complaint, and provide clinical tools such as a electronic patient record and assessments.

PALO ALTO, Calif., & TORONTO InWorld Solutions™ today unveiled InWorld, the first online application using virtual environments designed specifically for behavioral healthcare. Created for clinical institutions and individual therapists, InWorld helps overcome emotional and cognitive barriers to therapy, counseling, and education by engaging clients and mobilizing their active participation. InWorld can also be used for therapist training and supervision.
InWorld will be previewed to the psychology community at the American Psychological Association (APA) 117th Annual Convention taking place through August 9 in Toronto.

Designed to support HIPAA compliance, InWorld is convenient, easy to use, and affordable. InWorld is the first and only product to offer therapists a complete solution by combining a virtual world with important clinical functions such as session notes, appointment calendar, clinical illustrations, a clinical manual, and the management of avatars, the personalized characters used by therapists and their clients.
Interactions use speech, so keyboard skills are not required. Sessions are recorded and can be saved for review and playback from different viewing perspectives.

InWorld, which runs on the Windows operating system and requires broadband Internet access, will be available for download from the InWorld Solutions website in October 2009. The introductory subscription-based pricing is $95 per month per clinician. Custom solutions and volume pricing are available for large clinical organizations.

Thank you for choosing to use the MedTech-IQ platform as one way to communicate the launch of your new company and multi-user/virtual environment. To what extent do you see partnering with the military PTSD community going forward. This would seem to be an excellent fit for their requirements. Are you aware of the upcoming rural telehealth meeting @ CERMUSA and the ATA meeting in California, both focused on treament for TBI & PTSD? Good luck with your new endeavor, and let us know how we can help.
