Omnyx LLC will be owned 50-50 by GE and UPMC in the first such ownership deal with an academic research institution. Forming Omnyx fits in with GE's push to find new ways to commercialize research from GE's development center, which helped create the system. The system makes images small enough to store and transmit. Omnyx hopes to tap what it sees as a $2 billion market over the next several years. The device scans slides in 30 to 40 seconds and allows the image to be viewed by multiple doctors simultaneously, saving time and avoiding errors. Omnyx must get U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval for the system.

Bloomberg, http://www.bloomberg.com/intro3.html Diagnostics: GE Video on Portable ECG MAC 400 tag:medtechiq.ning.com,2008-09-18:2140535:Video:3513 2008-09-18T16:36:20.310Z CC-Conrad Clyburn-MedForeSight https://medtechiq.ning.com/profile/CCatMedTechIQ

New electrocardiogram MAC 400 from GE. Together, a PET/CT scan allows physicians to view metabolic activity and pinpoint where abnormalities are located so that they may target the disease.
Patient Benefits:
* The potential of diagnostic confidence for patients suspected to have cancer, and those who already have the disease.
* Potential reduction of invasive procedures such as biopsies and unnecessary surgeries.
* Reduction in exam time. For example, patient results can be obtained in less than one hour rather than in one day or more using previous, separate technologies.
* Greater peace of mind for patients and their families, knowing that this technology provides comprehensive information. This technology also eliminates a "wait and see" approach, commonly used to monitor the patient during post-treatment, and sometimes even used during the actual therapy and treatment phase.
* Increased patient comfort due to the shorter exam time and, as a result, less time spent on the table.

NOTE: Windber Medical Center is no longer affiliated with the Conemaugh Health System. Our WindberCare videos are currently being updated to reflect this change.
Windber Medical Center, http://www.windbercare.com Hospital of the Future: AspenHealth Forum - Joe Hogan SVP, GE Healthcare tag:medtechiq.ning.com,2008-07-08:2140535:Video:707 2008-07-08T17:00:57.827Z CC-Conrad Clyburn-MedForeSight https://medtechiq.ning.com/profile/CCatMedTechIQ

Joe Hogan Senior Vice President of GE Healthcare, a $14 billion segment of General Electric Company, describes his vision of considerations for designing hospitals of the future.

Aspen Institute, http://www.aspeninstitute.org/

GE,…

Joe Hogan Senior Vice President of GE Healthcare, a $14 billion segment of General Electric Company, describes his vision of considerations for designing hospitals of the future.
Aspen Institute, http://www.aspeninstitute.org/
GE, http://www.ge.com/
