Deep Impact

Posted on December 16, 2010 at 10:30am 0 Comments

Medical Product Manufacturing News (MPMN) released it's "Top 25 over the Last 25 Years". The list is subject to debate, but serves as solid retrospective of the impact of technology on the delivery of healthcare over the span of a quarter-century ... worth a read!

Wow. Who would have thought that Apple would dethrone Microsoft in the category of market capitalization. They did just that! For Apple 'followers', who have always seen Microsoft through some Manichean prism, this event takes on religious proportions. For the rest of us Apple admirers (who don't rely on anti-psychotic meds to get through the day), however, this is noteworthy for what it reveals about… Continue

Leapin' Androids

Following up on Conrad Clyburn's post earlier this week, read eWeek's analysis of the current leap in sales for the Android platform, and projections for its future competitiveness in the "smart-phone" marketplace.

PS. No sooner do I digest the above, than…

Calls on the Cheap

Like the PC mag article states "No one should be paying for long-distance calls anymore". This piece is simply a good review of the various offerings out there, most of which simply require a broad-band connection, and utilize VOIP. THERE ARE NO BAD CHOICES!

Apple has had one incredible week. First the iPad release has exceeded market predictions. I've been somewhat skeptical, but the more I see & hear of this device, the more I think they may have another tiger by the tail. Time will tell.

If that weren't enough, now comes the…

Thank you, and I hope things are going well for the both of you also. Debbie & I are sending our oldest to college this fall. Chris is heading off to Texas A&M, where he'll major in economics, and then move into Int'l affairs or public policy, with the intent of going on to law school (at least that's the plan so far). At this point he's saying he'd like to work in the State Dept as a diplomat of some sort. It'll be interesting to see where all of this actually takes him. I know I never dreamed of ever being on point for advanced prosthetics & orthotics research for the DoD, but I enjoy almost every day of it. Our second and youngest starts high school this fall. It's strange to think that they were 9 and 5 when I came to TATRC. The days sometimes drag, but the years seem to always fly.

If the chance ever came up, I'd enjoy having lunch with you one day to reconnect and see what you're involved in these days. I've gotten to know Greg Mogel through Facebook, and have had some good chats with CC at various conferences. I'm sorry we didn't establish these sorts of ties when we were all here inthe same place, but definitely better late than never!

I'm trying to move the prosthetics portfolio into social media, helping to form and expand a "Community of Practice", but there are unique challenges with that, given the nature of awarded research, IP, etc., not to mention how easy the DoD makes it to do almost anything new. Watching and engaging through MedTech-IQ is very helpful. I can be reached most easily through my personal email at troy.a.turner@gmail.com

Please say hello to Karen and Sade for me, and travel safe.

Troy.
