Interesting link from MedTech-IQ member, Ben Forstag, in the American telemedicine Association Linkedin group ... The Sri Ramachandra University, Chennai, India opened on Wednesday its telemedicine and tele-education programme, "Pan African e-Network for Telemedicine". It is an initiative by the Government of India to provide the facility to 53 nations of the African Union.
The project also aims at providing tele-education services to 10,000 African students to undertake post-graduate, under-graduate, PG diploma and diploma and skill-enabling certification courses in subjects such as business administration, IT, international business, tourism and finance.
In his address by video conferencing from New Delhi, J.S.Chhabra, executive director, Telecommunications Consultants India Ltd, said that telemedicine and consultation would be provided for one hour daily to the 53 nations.
Presently, 44 countries have joined and 26 African nations are already receiving the service. The project will also provide tele-education linking leading medical colleges and universities...

Explaining the project, Dr. K.Selvakumar, Professor of Neurosurgery and Chairman-Telemedicine, SRU said that in partnership with Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) since 2001, SRU has been connected to 165 centers in India through VSAT links. Thirty-five specialty centers are also connected for sharing CME programmes and live surgeries...
