In the last week, there have been a number of merger, acquisition & licensing agreements of note in the medical & health information technology sectors. They include:

J&J unit paying $785M for device maker Acclarent
Johnson & Johnson has announced that its Ethicon unit will buy privately held medical technology company Acclarent Inc. for $785 million in cash. Acclarent makes minimally invasive devices used in sinus surgery.

Cerner Acquires IMC Health Care
Cerner Corp. said it reached an agreement to acquire IMC Health Care, a privately held provider of employer-sponsored on-site health centers, for an undisclosed amount. Cerner is a leading health information technology company with solutions licensed by more than 8,000 facilities around the world, including approximately 2,100 hospitals; 3,300 physician practices covering more than 30,000 physicians; 500 ambulatory facilities, such as laboratories, ambulatory centers, cardiac facilities, radiology clinics and surgery centers; 600 home-health facilities; and 1,500 retail pharmacies.... Emerging Healthcare Solutions, Inc. (EHSI) licenses Telemedicus, In...
EHSI announced a licensing agreement with Telemedicus, Inc. Telemedicus owns a proprietary medical communications technology that provides a resource that could be of strategic importance under the new $1 Trillion health-care bill making its way through congress. Telemedicus is a life saving mobile medical communications technology using bi-directional audio, video and patient data communication between a remote unit such as a rural ambulance service and the physician in a hospital. The Telemedicus system was jointly developed by Dr. Red Duke of Texas A&M University, and the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.

Philips & European Investment Bank Sign 200 million euro Open I...
The European Investment Bank (EIB) and Royal Philips Electronics have signed a EUR 200 million agreement. The agreement will finance R&D activities across a range of innovative healthcare projects, including image-guided intervention, clinical decision support and home healthcare, in Europe. The R&D will take place in an open innovation environment, collaborating with Small and Medium Enterprises (SME), research institutes and universities across Europe. Philips is the first company to receive EIB funding as a result of its efforts to fuel open innovation.
