Just another reminder for U.S. members of "MedTech-IQ" ... This NIH Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), supported by funds provided to the NIH under the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009 ("Stimulus", “Recovery Act” or “ARRA”), invites grant applications from small business concerns that propose to accelerate innovation through high risk, high reward research and development (R&D) that has commercial potential and is relevant to the mission of the NIH.

The Small Business Catalyst Award is further expected to support entrepreneurs of exceptional creativity, drawn from scientific and technological environments beyond NIH, who propose pioneering and possibly transformative approaches to addressing major biomedical or behavioral challenges with the potential for downstream commercial development ... In particular, applications from small business concerns without a history of NIH Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) or Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) support may receive funding priority...

... NIH intends to commit as least $5 million under this FOA and anticipates that 20-25 awards will be made for fiscal year 2010 ... Budget requests are limited to $200,000 total costs for a maximum project period of one year ... The Research Plan is limited to a total of 7 pages, including 1 page for the Specific Aims and 6 pages for Research Design and Methods ... Only United States small business concerns (SBCs) are eligible to submit applications ...
