As reported in Government Health IT...Military Health System officials have started evaluating the pilot launch of the MiCare personal health record system and have found that early adopters are interested in better managing their own and their family's health care.

MiCare allows MHS beneficiaries to choose between the Microsoft HealthVault and Google Health PHR systems. The PHRs will receive updates on prescriptions, allergies, lab and radiology results, and clinical notes from MHS’ electronic medical record system and from non-MHS sources.

Users must first sign up with Microsoft or Google to set up their PHRs. Active-duty service members can then authorize MHS to transfer data to the online PHR using their Common Access Card as authentication. Other MHS beneficiaries must sign an authorization document at an MHS facility.

Officials have not determined whether users are showing a preference for the Microsoft or Google product.
