Health IT Policy Committee

The Health IT Policy Committee is tasked with making recommendations to the national coordinator for health IT on a policy framework for the development and adoption of a nationwide interoperable health information infrastructure:

HHS named three members to the Health IT Policy Committee:

* David Blumenthal, national coordinator for health IT;
* Michael Klag, a physician and dean of Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health; and
* Deven McGraw, director of the Health Privacy Project at the Center for Democracy & Technology.

In early April, Congress and the acting comptroller general appointed 13 other members to the policy committee. Presidential appointments to the policy committee from specific federal agencies are expected to be made prior to the policy committee's second meeting in June.

Health IT Standards Committee

The Health IT Standards Committee is tasked with making recommendations to the national coordinator for health IT on standards, implementation specifications and certification criteria for the electronic exchange and use of health information.

HHS' appointments to the standards committee are:
