As reported in Telecompaper ... Completion of the US Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) national broadband plan has been delayed to March. FCC chairman Julius Genachowski confirmed in a letter to Congress that the regulator will take a month longer than expected to complete the assigned task. The extra time is expected to allow it to gather more comments from stakeholders as well as brief members of Congress on elements of the proposal. The FCC was put in charge of the broadband plan as part of the government's economic stimulus plans, in the Recovery and Reinvestment Act last year. The Recovery Act will provide a total of USD $7.2 billion to the Commerce Department's National Telecommunications and Information Administration and the US Department of Agriculture's Rural Utilities Service to accelerate broadband deployment across the country.
