As reported in Health Data Management...Vendors of personal health technology could generate $460 million in annual revenue by 2013 if they target the disease management sector, according to a new report.

"Once hailed as the solution to the chronic epidemic, the disease management service model is facing growing skepticism," says Harry Wang, a director at Parks Associates, a Dallas-based market research and consulting firm. "After a ten-year boom period, this industry is at a crossroads again. The market calls for DM 2.0, a model relying on not only human expertise but also many high-tech tools."

Personal health technologies include personal health records, home health diagnostic and monitoring devices, and mobile communication devices. The 62-page report examines the current disease management market, its challenges and opportunities, and the roles that technology can play to drive care innovation.
