IBM Research, & 4 universities are partnering to create computing systems that will simulate the brain

As reported in Silicon Valley / San Jose Business Journal...IBM Research, and four universities are partnering to create computing systems that will simulate the brain, in research that has been awarded $4.9 million in funding from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).
The IBM-led team will work to create systems that emulate the brain's abilities for sensation, perception, action, interaction and cognition, and also work to simulate the brain's low power consumption and compact size.
In addition to Stanford, IBM's team will work on the project with researchers from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Cornell University, Columbia University Medical Center and the University of California-Merced.
