Pension funds & university endowments put more money into venture capital than a year ago

Despite dismal IPO market for VC backed start-ups, big buck investors (limited partners) continue to pour money into venture capital funds. Pfizer & Glaxo Ink Multi-Million Dollar R&D Deals with Academia

Biotech Transfer Week reports that Pfizer and Glaxo Smith Kline (GSK) are continuing the trend toward the pharmaceutical industry funding large partnerships with academic research institutions to invigorate their innovation pipelines. The imperative to pursue academic, government, industry collaboration in accelerating advanced medical technology translation

To sustain competitiveness recent studies indicate that we need to apply new models of life science collaboration between academic generators of innovation & IP, industry colonizers that take the risk out of innovation, consolidators that have global reach in distribution, marketing & access to public capital, and government for the funding of basic research/applied research and the regulation of new technology to the market.
