US President Expected to Announce Afghanistan Policy Tuesday

U.S. news organizations say President Barack Obama plans to announce his new strategy for Afghanistan on Tuesday evening, during a prime-time television address.



The reports say the president is most likely to back a plan to send between 30,000 and 35,000 additional U.S. troops to the country.



The top U.S. and NATO commander in Afghanistan earlier this year told the president that up to 40,000 troops are needed to combat Taliban and al-Qaida militants in the region.…

Obama to Visit India Next Year

President Barack Obama has hailed bilateral relations with India, and says he has accepted an invitation to travel to the country next year.



Mr. Obama is hosting Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at the White House for the first state visit of his presidency.

Palestinians call for EU to back independence

Palestinians have formally asked the European Union to urge the UN security council to recognise a fully independent state in the West Bank and Gaza Strip in response to the current impasse in peace negotiations with Israel.

Palin in book: McCain aides kept me 'bottled up'

The rumors are true, according to Sarah Palin: The McCain-Palin campaign was not a happy family. In Palin's new memoir, "Going Rogue," she confirms reports of tension between her aides and those of the 2008 Republican presidential candidate, Sen. John McCain.
