Blogging From ATA (American Telemedicine Association) International Conference, Las Vegas, 2009

Colleagues,

This week I will reporting to you from the 14th Annual American Association (ATA) meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada. This year's conference is the LARGEST ever convened by the association encompassing almost 3,000 attendees representing over 40 countries, and 200 exhibitors.

This is remarkable in light of the current worldwide economic challenges. That said, there appears to be a widespread recognition that eHealth will be a major driving force in healthcare delivery in the United Steates of America (USA) and in countries around the world ranging from highly developed economies and underserved regions. There is a strong buzz & interest in the 'Stimulus" package and policy evolutions advocating "Digital" healthcare.

As in the past, the conference started over the weekend with partner organizational meetings. These included the increasingly important Department of Defense (DOD) TATRC (Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center) meeting focused on "Personalized Medicine"; the OAT (Office for the Advancement of Telemedicine) grantee meeting, Department of Health and Human Services meeting; the 4th Annual Mobile Health Clinic meeting; the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) Rural health meeting; the Joint Canada First Nations, Indian Health Meeting; and Four Corners Telehealth Consortia Meeting.

A great start!

ENJOY!
