Event Description

Overview: This program will explain concepts and techniques regarding non-directive splint design, delivery and adjustment. Participants will also learn the principles of equilibration of the natural dentition. As alumni of both the Pankey and Dawson Institutes, a member of the Board of Directors of the American Equilibration Society, and drawing upon his 25 years' experience working with an in-house crown and bridge lab, Dr. Jesek is uniquely qualified to help you improve the diagnosis and treatment of occlusomuscle/TMJ disorders within your practice.

Why should you attend: Due to the complicated nature of Temporomandibular disorders it is important to become educated in the current methods and techniques used to treat them.

Many people suffer from headaches, earaches, face, neck and back pain, or dizziness without ever really knowing the cause of their pain. Patients often try seeking a medical cure for their discomfort. Unfortunately, after years of unsuccessful treatment they learn to live with pain, often with the aid of medications. A known condition that accounts for a large percentage of these patients is TMJ (temporomandibular joint) dysfunction. There are many who suspect they have a joint disorder because they hear clicks or pops in their joint when they open and close. Their jaws may have even locked open at times. However, symptoms, such as the pain mentioned above, can be associated with TMJ dysfunction, but they are not the disorder itself. Treating the source of the pain, not the pain itself, is the goal of the treatment TMJ within your practice.

Areas Covered in the Session:

  • Differential diagnosis of TMD and occlusomuscle disorders
  • How to know when occlusal treatment will work predictably
  • How to use emergency appliances to eliminate acute occlusomuscle pain
  • How to use splints to rehabilitate the TMJ and muscles of mastication
