Given you background, I suggest you do a search (in the upper right hand corner of the homepage) on key terms you care about, i.e., informatics, computing, bioinformatics, ect.. This will yield search results that feature links to people, blog posts, meetings, ect., related to your interests. If there is a blog you find interesting, leave a comment. If it is a person with intersecting interests, send them a message or leave a comment on their wall. Also, you can upload info for the community you think they will benefit from. Give and you shall receive.
