Obama Says Health IT Included in Economic Stimulus Package

As reported in iHealthBeat....In a radio address last Saturday, President-elect Barack Obama said health IT would be included in an economic stimulus package being drafted by members of Congress, Government Health IT reports.
Obama said that modernizing the country's hospitals would be part of a major effort to finance an upgrade of the U.S. broadband infrastructure. He noted that the U.S. has dropped to 15th in the world in broadband adoption (McCloskey, Government Health IT, 12/8).
Among other measures, the package would seek to provide hospitals and physicians with access to electronic health record systems and other new medical technology (Shear, Washington Post, 12/7). Obama said that such a measure could help improve health care delivery and reduce costs (Nicholas/Hook, Chicago Tribune, 12/7).
