DOD STTR (Small Business Tech Transfer Research) Topics requiring a small business & research center partnership are currently available for the 24 February thru 25 March 2009 timeframe. Research institutions and small businesses looking to partner for SBIR/STTR grants can now register their capabilities and topic interest in a Gateway database, and then use the Gateway's search engine to find a partner.

As of February 12th, the SBIR Gateway is offering the ability for small businesses to search for a DoD STTR research partner by querying their database and see which research organizations may be interested in partnering on selected topics. It also works the other way -- small businesses can register their interests and research institutions can find them via this matchmaking service.

In hard economic times, entities that previously thought STTR/SBIR too small to bother with are becoming more interested, and small businesses that have a hard time finding an interested university or federally funded R&D center (including DoD and DOE National Laboratories) in an STTR project are finding this free service useful..
